Polatlı's 500-year history is about to disappear!

Historical Balıklıgöl Pool, located in Ilıca District, one of the oldest settlements of Polatlı, was in danger of extinction due to the wells unconsciously dug by farmers. 

The Historical Balıklıgöl Pool, which dates back to the 1500s and is located in the area where the Romans first settled, is also known as the Martyr Fish Pool. On the other hand, there are graves and a mound from the Roman and War of Independence around the Balıklıgöl Pool.

The water of the historical Balıklıgöl Pool came naturally from under the pool as spring water. 

While there has been a decrease in the water of the Historical Balıklıgöl Pool due to the wells opened in the region recently, the neighborhood says that if precautions are not taken, the fish will die and this historical structure will be destroyed.

Journalist Hamza Kabasakal, who was doing research in this historical area, called out to Polatlı Municipality, Ankara Metropolitan Municipality and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and requested that this place be taken into urgent care and protected.

Kabasakal said, "This is the Ilıca District of the Polatlı District of the Capital Ankara, there is a history here. The pool we are in is almost the same as Balıklıgöl in Şanlıurfa, this historical area has been in decay since the Roman period and unfortunately it is abandoned to its fate today." "Somewhere around here, the fabric of ancient history needs to be restored, kept alive and protected."

Balıklıgöl Pool, which hosted the Roman period, is one of the first settlements of Polatlı. 

The first place where Ilıca Village was settled in the 1500s is around Balıklıgöl Pool. This is a village that was occupied by the Greeks during the Battle of Sakarya and was affiliated with Haymana at that time.

During the Battle of Sakarya and the Cyprus Peace Operation, fish disappeared in the pond, and it was observed that the fish were injured at the end of the war. 

Fish are considered sacred because of this story, which is known as fish going to war and is constantly talked about by the local people.
